Wrexham ended their Championship season in seventh place, finishing just two points outside the playoff positions after a 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough at SToK Cae Ras on the final day. It was a result that summed up a campaign of near-misses, with the club unable to close the gap on the top six despite pushing hard across the 46-game season.
Finishing on 71 points, they ended above Derby County but could not overhaul Hull City in sixth, who took the final playoff spot with 73 points. The margin was fine, and the frustration will be real. A club that has risen rapidly through the football pyramid now finds itself in the position many expected them to reach but not quite able to take the next step.
With the season over, attention turns to pre-season. Wrexham face Wisla Krakow in a Club Friendly on July 11, giving the squad an early opportunity to build fitness and cohesion ahead of what will be another demanding Championship campaign. That fixture will also give the coaching staff a first look at any new additions as the club prepares to go again.
The challenge for Wrexham going into next season is clear. They have proven they can compete in the Championship. The next step is converting that consistency into a genuine playoff push, and the summer window will be critical in determining whether they have the squad depth to do it.
