'Leave your ego at home!' - Sir Jim Ratcliffe slammed for 'irrational' Dan Ashworth decision with Man Utd part-owner accused of playing a 'dangerous game'

Ashworth arrived at Manchester United in July to work as the club's new sporting director but was surprisingly sacked in December by Ratcliffe. The Red Devils opted to part ways with the 53-year-old after his relationship with Ratcliffe deteriorated despite the club having spent plenty of time, money and effort in tempting him away from Newcastle United. Ashworth has since been linked with a move to Arsenal to replace Edu.

The decision to axe Ashworth so early into his United career has drawn plenty of criticism from fans, while new manager Ruben Amorim has admitted it's "not the best situation." Former Red Devils striker Louis Saha has now had his say and believes Ratcliffe is playing a "dangerous game" at Old Trafford when it comes to decisions regarding the long-term health of Manchester United.

Salah told Betfred: "I was very shocked. They did everything to bring him to the club and they gave him a lot of responsibility, but sometimes things don’t go to plan. However, these irrational decisions aren’t a good sign. Dan’s job was focused on the long-term and he’s gone already. Sir Jim Ratcliffe needs to understand that a football club isn’t like any other company and you need a good culture. Sometimes, you need to leave your ego at home and not impact long-term planning with irrational decisions. It’s a dangerous game that he’s playing and it’s not normal. There are people behind these roles and you shouldn’t be making silly decisions based on your ego. This is not the right time for it.”

Ashworth's exit is not the only big call made by Ratcliffe recently, with the INEOS owner also willing to sanction the sale of Marcus Rashford as part of a "cultural reboot" at the club. In the meantime, the Red Devils will be eyeing a spot in the Carabao Cup semi-finals when they take on Tottenham on Thursday.
