Former USMNT candidate Jesse Marsch admits he ‘should have taken’ Leicester job after Leeds sacking as American coach also explains Southampton snub

Speaking toThe Telegraph, Marsch opened up on his shock sacking from the English club last Winter, revealing that he pushed away two unique opportunities due to the situation. The American expanded on how he wasn't ready to jump straight back into management after his removal, but looking back, believes it may have been the - potentially - wrong decision.

After Marsch was unexpectedly sacked by Leeds in February, he was immediately approached for the Southampton job. However, for the American, it was too soon of a transition - especially considering how attached he became to the club. A few months on, though, he was offered the Leicester City job - but withdrew from candidacy due to concerns over what ended up being an inevitable relegation alongside Leeds. Now, in hindsight, it's a small regret of his.

“[The] Southampton [offer], it was right after Leeds," he explained. "Literally days. I was very serious about it. I could see internally they had a few different ideas on the direction they were moving forward ... but wonderful people.

“Leicester I was incredibly close to taking but in the end I just felt that I wasn’t ready to jump back in. In hindsight I think it’s a wonderful club and a great place and maybe if my mindset had been in a different place I could have – and should – have maybe taken that job.”

Currently, the American is living in Italy and working with CBS Sports as a sideline reporter for their UEFA Champions League coverage. During Milan's group stage matches, Marsch added insight and coverage to Christian Pulisic and Co.'s tournament run. Now, with the Rossoneri moving to the Europa League, it remains to be seen where he heads off to now.
