'If I went there and played my way, we'd win more games' - Sean Dyche insists he could rescue Manchester United and insists Ruben Amorim must start winning games fast to survive

Dyche insists that he could get United up the Premier League table simply by playing his way. The Red Devils sit 16th and have won just ten of their 36 games this season, although they could still sneak into the Champions League, if they manage to beat Tottenham Hotspur, who are 17th, in the final of the Europa League.

United reportedly plan to stick with Amorim, and have set him the target of guiding the Red Devils to a top-six finish next season. Dyche has accepted that the Portuguese is under significant pressure to win games, and believes he must start putting points on the board soon if he is to keep his job.

Speaking on Stick to Football, Dyche said: “He [Amorim] better win some games – pretty quick. I reckon if I went there and played my way, we’d win more games. Just 4-4-2 – give them basic rules of principles. They have some good players. You don’t have to over teach everyone. I’d be interested more in the longer run, if he can stick to his principals and then next season, we’re all going, ‘Fair play’ – but, he’s been there a while now so you better start bringing some wins soon.

“Howard Wilkinson had a great saying, he said, ‘Win, survive, succeed’. Basically, you have to win first, and then you can survive because you’re winning, and then success is when you do lay down all your principles and your playing style. So, if he can win enough, which is the worry at the minute, and then survive the process, and then succeed – then that’s going to be better.

“People forget about Pep [Guardiola] – the first time he came over here they [Manchester City] finished 13 points off the top. He made more tactical changes and more individual changes than any other manager in the Premier League that season. If he went into Real Madrid and did that, he would probably get the sack. It took him one season, even with his knowledge and the amazing manager he is, his principles and the way they are doing things, and all the best players that he brought in – it still took him a season to work it out.

“The point is, if Amorim turns into that, you have to go, ‘Ok, they gave him the time’.”

United's eggs are firmly in the Europa League basket, as qualifying for the Champions League could prove transformative to Amorim's reign. First, they face Chelsea in midweek in the Premier League.
