Rasmus Hojlund back to Italy? Inter make Man Utd flop their top summer target to fix attacking issues following treble disappointment

Inter have identified the Manchester United striker as their priority target for the summer transfer window, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. The Italian giants are reportedly looking to strengthen their attack after a disappointing end to the 2024-25 campaign, especially the 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. They are exploring a loan deal with an option to buy, capitalising on Hojlund's underwhelming season in England.

Hojlund, 22, joined United from Atlanta in August 2023, but has failed to meet expectations, managing just four goals in 32 Premier League appearances in 2024-25. Despite showing promise in the Europa League - scoring six goals in the competition - but they lost the final to Tottenham and missed out on a spot in the Champions League in the upcoming season. Inter want to change their forward line after failing to win any of the three trophies they fought for. Reports say that the club have a transfer budget of €40 million (£34m/$46m) and is focusing on younger players with a lot of potential, like Hojlund.

The forward previously impressed in Serie A during the 2022-23 season at Atlanta, where he scored nine goals in 32 appearances, which led to his high-profile move to the Red Devils. In his last season for Atalanta, he managed 16 goals and seven assists in 42 games.

Hojlund is contracted to United until June 2028, but a loan move to Inter with a purchase option could materialise this summer. United may use the deal to free up space for their own forward reinforcements. Inter are still looking for other young attacking stars, such as Ange-Yoan Bonny of Parma and Bologna's Santiago Castro, but Hojlund is still their top choice to lead the line in 2025–26.
