Napoli reach €18m agreement to sign ex-Real Madrid academy star but yet to convince winger to join Kevin De Bruyne & Co

Gutierrez, currently recovering from ankle surgery, is reportedly open to a new challenge but has yet to be fully convinced by Napoli’s project, even with Kevin De Bruyne now anchoring Antonio Conte’s midfield overhaul.

Napoli are pushing to reshape their squad under Conte, having already completed six new signings this summer. Gutierrez has long been on their radar to reinforce the left side, and the move would reunite him with Serie A after links to AC Milan earlier fizzled out.

Meanwhile, the club must also juggle other negotiations, including a €30m (£26m/$34m) valuation for Giacomo Raspadori amid interest from Atletico Madrid and talks with Juventus for Fabio Miretti. Napoli have offered €10m for Miretti but Juventus are holding out for €20m (£17m/$23m), though optimism remains for a compromise.

Gutierrez, still owned in part by Real Madrid through a 50 per cent resale clause, had a €8m buyback clause that expired in June. Now, the ball is in Napoli’s court to finalise personal terms and get the green light.

Gutierrez has been on Napoli’s radar since winter, and the current negotiations mark a culmination of months of scouting. Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna reignited talks with both Girona and the player’s new agent, Manuel Garcia Quilon, and an €18m deal, with potential bonuses pushing it to €20m, was sealed last week.

However, the 24-year-old left-back is still considering his options, especially while recovering from right ankle surgery. Napoli are offering a five-year contract worth €2.3m per season, decent terms, but the winger is yet to be fully convinced.

Conte sees Gutierrez as a long-term solution on the flank, particularly as he restructures a squad that could soon lose Raspadori to La Liga. Despite Napoli’s proactive transfer window, the Gutierrez deal has stalled at the final hurdle.

With Gutierrez’s signature hanging in the balance, Napoli must act quickly to close the deal before rival suitors enter the fray. Talks with his camp continue as Conte presses for a resolution.

In parallel, Napoli are closely monitoring Atletico Madrid’s interest in Raspadori and continuing negotiations for Juventus midfielder Fabio Miretti. If both midfielders move on and in, Gutierrez’s arrival could complete a transformative window for the Partenopei. But until the Spaniard gives his nod, Napoli’s left-flank rebuild remains incomplete.
