'That can't happen!' - Lionel Messi warns Inter Miami to avoid 'silly mistakes' that plagued first season as they bid to win MLS Cup

Inter Miami topped topped the MLS Eastern Conference this season but Argentine legend Messi is not resting on his laurels for their play-off campaign. The 37-year-old said the errors they made in the regular season "can't happen" in their upcoming knockout matches.

He told Fabrizio Romano: “Throughout the year, we made a lot of mistakes, many of which could have been avoided. Many of the mistakes were silly ones, to say the very least. That can’t happen during the playoffs because a mistake can cost you dearly and get you eliminated. We have to be stronger than ever and seize the advantage we’ve got.”

Messi led Inter Miami to their first ever trophy success in 2023 by winning the Leagues Cup and he will hope to guide them to an MLS Cup triumph in the coming weeks. But first, they will have to get past Atlanta in their three-match series after winning the first game 2-1.

The former Barcelona star will hope to help his Inter Miami beat Atlanta in their next clash on Saturday. If they win that, they will advance to the Eastern Conference semi-finals against either Orlando City or Charlotte FC. If they lose this weekend, their will be a winner takes all clash with Atlanta on November 10.
