Lionel Messi issues classy message to Barcelona after Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas fire them to Women's Champions League win against Lyon

The Catalan giants successfully defended their Women's Champions League crown as they beat Lyon 2-0 courtesy of goals from Aitana Bonmati and Alexia Putellas on Saturday. It was the historic first quadruple win for the women's team.

As Barcelona capped off a memorable season in Bilbao, club legend and former men's team captain Lionel Messi took to social media to congratulate the club on their historic feat.

The Inter Miami star shared a photograph of the team lifting the European title as his Instagram story and wrote, "Congratulations champions".

Lyon, who are the most successful side in the history of the competition, thrashed the Blaugrana in the 2019 and 2022 finals, however, the Catalan side finally got their revenge this season as they lifted their third European title.

Jonatan Giraldez's side will be next seen in action on June 9 as they take on Real Betis in their penultimate game of the season at home.
