  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Bellingham was shown a straight red card during Saturday's 1-1 draw at Osasuna for dissent. The referee's report claimed the midfielder had said "f*ck you," while Bellingham said after the game he had actually said "f*ck off." Either way, it proved a costly sending off as Real Madrid dropped points and could be knocked off the top of the table if Barcelona beat Rayo Vallecano on Monday.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bellingham is also now facing a ban, although Real Madrid are hoping that can be avoided as former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood escaped a suspension for a similar offence while on loan with Getafe. Madrid certainly won't want to lose their England international to suspension as he remains a vital player for Carlo Ancelotti's side and key to their hopes of landing silverware this season. Bellingham, meanwhile, has now had his say on the incident and wants to move on from the "misunderstanding" with the match referee.

  • WHAT BELLINGHAM SAID

Bellingham posted on Instagram: "Enough said about the misunderstanding, just wanted to apologise again for leaving my teammates in such a tough position and understanding. See you on Wednesday at home."

    WHAT NEXT FOR BELLINGHAM?

Bellingham and Real Madrid must now wait to discover if the 21-year-old will be banned for his outburst. In the meantime, he will be back in Champions League action in midweek when Real Madrid take on Manchester City in the second leg of their play-off tie. Bellingham scored the winner in the first leg as Madrid enjoyed a 3-2 victory at the Etihad Stadium.
