Is Darwin Nunez injured? Why Liverpool striker was taken off at half-time against Brentford

  • Nunez scores opener at Brentford
  • Goes off at half-time
  • Replaced by Cody Gakpo
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Liverpool fans will be waiting nervously for news on Nunez after the forward was replaced at half-time at Brentford. Jurgen Klopp had already lost Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones to injury in the first half and then made his third substitution of the match at the break by taking off Nunez and replacing him with Gakpo.

    THE EXPLANATION

Klopp told the media he was hooked as a precaution after feeling something at half-time. The Liverpool boss didn't want to take any risks because of the club's current injury situation and also due to the fact the Reds are set to take on Chelsea in the final of the Carabo Cup next Sunday. Klopp was without goalkeeper Alisson and Trent Alexander-Arnold against Brentford and will have been dismayed to see Jota and Jones add to his injury problems. Nunez went off after earlier putting Liverpool 1-0 up in the game with a brilliant dink over goalkeeper Mark Flekken.

  • WHAT JURGEN KLOPP SAID

He told reporters: "We are not sure if he has something or not. He felt a little bit. We will see. It is not easy for us."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Nunez is a man in form as he has five goals and two assists in his last seven Premier League appearances for Liverpool.

    WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL

Liverpool have a midweek Premier League clash against Luton to think about before their trip to Wembley to face Mauricio Pochettino's side. The injury situation will be a concern for Klopp but he was boosted by the return of Mohamed Salah against Brentford. The Egyptian came off the bench on his return from injury and scored Liverpool's third of the match.
