  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Prolific frontman Kane is currently on the books of German giants Bayern Munich, where he is hoping to bring a career-long wait for major silverware to a close. He has previously starred for Tottenham in the Premier League, becoming their all-time leading scorer, while also breaking records with the Three Lions.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Kane is still only 31 years of age, so would appear to have plenty of football left in him at the very highest level. Questions are, however, already being asked of what the long-term future could hold. A move to the United States has been speculated on for a man that has hinted at exploring a route into the NFL ranks.

  • WHAT JERMAIN DEFOE SAID

Quizzed on such a move, ex-Spurs and England striker Jermain Defoe – who spent time in MLS himself with Toronto FC – told GOAL while speaking courtesy of bet365’s new Sub On, Play On product: “He loves the NFL doesn’t he. I don’t know. It’s whatever he wants to do. But I would say, ‘of course play as long as you can’.

“The reason he has said that [he wants to play towards his 40s] is because he wants to break all the records. He’s hungry to break records. Even individual ones are special.

“Of course you want to win trophies for your club, win a league title, win the Champions League, a trophy with England – whether that is the World Cup or the Euros – and we just hope it happens for him because he deserves it. He’s had to wait a long time. It’s whatever he wants to do. Hopefully he doesn’t have too many injuries and he can play for a long time.”

    DID YOU KNOW?

Pressed further on whether Kane could follow Messi to America and potentially link up with former England captain David Beckham at Inter Miami, Defoe added: “Yeah, but I feel like he can still score goals. Look at how many goals he has got at Bayern. I don’t think he needs to think about that yet.

“When I went to Toronto, I felt like I went too early. I came back and went to Sunderland, then signed for Bournemouth, went to Rangers and finished at 39. Harry is 31. He’s got years yet. Touch wood he doesn’t get too many serious injuries. There are a lot of goals in him yet.”

  • WHAT NEXT FOR HARRY KANE?

Kane is tied to a contract at Bayern through to the summer of 2027, so has no need to consider a new challenge any time soon. It may be that he ends up in America at some stage, but such a move would appear to be many years off.
