Fresh off USMNT duty, Gio Reyna comes off bench as Dortmund complete incredible comeback in win over Joe Scally's Borussia Monchengladbach

After going behind two goals early, Dortmund came all the way back with three first half goals of their own to seal a dramatic 4-2 win over Gladbach at Signal Iduna Park.

The match featured two Americans, Scally and Jordan Pefok, in the starting XI, while international teammate Reyna was tossed into the match for the entirety of the second half, having largely been glued to the bench prior to the international break.

It took 13 minutes for Gladbach to seize the lead, with Rocco Reitz giving the visitors an early advantage. That advantage was doubled 15 minutes later on a stunning finish from Kouadio Kone.

Dortmund, though, stormed back, starting with a 30th minute goal from Marcel Sabitzer to begin the comeback. That was followed by a Niclas Fullkrug goal two minutes later, with Jamie Bynoe-Gittens 45th-minute goal completing a 15-minute flurry good for all three points.

It took the whole second half for Dortmund to find their insurance goal, but it finally came in stoppage time as Donyell Malen put the game to bed with a goal to make it 4-2.

The win was vital for Dortmund, who are looking to stay in a title race that is rapidly passing them by.

Even with the three points, they're till 10 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen and eight points back of rivals Bayern Munich, who sit second. Standing between them also is Stuttgart, who Dortmund are level with on 24 points having played one extra match.

Gladbach, meanwhile, sit midtable, but could rapidly slip into a relegation fight if things don't turn around. With only 13 points through 12 matches, the club is just six points out of the the relegation playoff spot.

It was good to see Reyna back playing for Dortmund, as minutes have been few and far between on the club level. The match is only Reyna's fifth Bundesliga appearance of the season, with only one of those appearances beying a start. Thus far, he's been unable to really crack Edin Terzic's XI, but getting the whole second half seems like a sign of confidence.

Scally, meanwhile, continues to start as Gladbach's right centerback in a back three, which could be an interesting development for the USMNT. With Tim Weah playing as more of a wingback at Juventus, a back-five could be an interesting option for Gregg Berhalter, with Scally seeming fairly comfortable playing in that centerback spot.

As for Pefok, it seems it would take a flurry of goals for him to rejoin the USMNT picture, and that didn't come on Saturday as he played just 45 minutes.

Gio Reyna (7/10):
Came off the bench for the second half and definitely created some good moments. Had one shot and two chances created as Reyna put in a positive showing once again off the bench.

Joe Scally (6/10):

Had a few really good moments on the ball, as he showed off his passing and the ability to step up into the attack. That's to be expected, though, from a player that is a natural fullback. Still, it's hard to give higher marks, especially since a deflection off Scally led to one of the goals.

Jordan Pefok (5/10):

Struggled to get much going. Had just one shot off target and 16 total touches before being removed at halftime.

Up next for Dortmund is a massive Champions League match as they'll travel to Italy to face AC Milan. As things stand, Dortmund top Group F, but it's all to play for with all four teams separated by just three points.

As for Gladbach, Scally, Pefok and co. will now look towards a return home against Hoffenheim next weekend.
