  • WHAT HAPPENED?

According to the East Anglian Daily Times, the Albania international, who has been with Chelsea since his early teens, is close to sealing a move to the Tractor Boys as he searches for regular game time. Discussions between Chelsea and Ipswich Town are ongoing, with both clubs working out the finer details of the transfer.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

A key point of the negotiations is the inclusion of an obligation-to-buy clause, which would commit Ipswich to purchasing Broja outright after an initial loan period. The exact fee involved in this obligation is still under discussion, but reports suggest that it could be in the region of £30 million ($39m), as reported by The Athletic. While negotiations continue, Broja is undergoing a medical with Ipswich, indicating that a deal is close to completion.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Since returning from Chelsea's pre-season tour of the United States earlier this month, Broja has been training separately from the first team and his agent had been actively seeking a fresh challenge for the striker. Ipswich, under the guidance of manager Kieran McKenna, have been in the market for striking options as first-choice striker, George Hirst has undergone knee surgery. In response to this setback, Ipswich signed Liam Delap from Manchester City and are now vying for Broja's signature to further bolster their squad.

    WHAT NEXT FOR BROJA?

Broja’s departure from Chelsea became even more likely earlier this month when his No.19 squad number was reassigned to new signing Pedro Neto. Chelsea are also nearing the completion of a deal for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix, further limiting Broja’s prospects at Stamford Bridge. As he edges closer to a move to Ipswich, the transfer provides him with the opportunity to make a fresh start with a club eager to make their mark in the Premier League.
