    WHAT HAPPENED?

Inter struck a crucial blow in the 37th minute, seizing the lead through an unfortunate Juventus own goal. Marcus Thuram was initially credited with the finish, with the French forward dashing onto the ball after Benjamin Pavard's failed scissor kick. However, it was determined that Federico Gatti got the last touch, handing him an own goal and, more importantly, Inter the lead.

Juve had a few chances, but Inter certainly had the better of the match, narrowly missing several opportunities to kill the game in the second half. It turned out, though, that Inter would never quite need that second goal as they held on to a 1-0 win.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

With the win, Inter now have a tight stranglehold on the Scudetto race, having built a commanding lead atop the league.

Inter now has a four-point lead over Juve at the Serie A summit, despite having played one fewer match than the second-place Bianconeri. AC Milan, meanwhile, sit four points behind Juve and eight points back on Inter, having also played one more match than the league leaders.

    USMNT IMPACT

McKennie was a bit unlucky in the first half, as the American should have had an assist that would have given Juve the lead. His mazy run and subsequent through ball found Dusan Vlahovic wide open on the right side of the box. However, the striker's heavy touch let him down, ending a chance that could have, and probably should have, resulted in a Juve goal.

The American was arguably Juve's best midfielder on the day as he partnered Adrien Rabiot and Manuel Locatelli in the center of the pitch. McKennie was particularly solid defensively, with his near-assist in the first half proving to be one of Juve's few bright moments on the day.

Weah, meanwhile, continues to be Juve's supersub. He has frequently taken the place of Filip Kostic, with Andrea Cambiasso switching sides to accommodate Weah on the right. That's how it went down again on Sunday, as Weah entered in the 66th minute with Juve needing a more attacking spark.

    GOAL'S RATINGS

    Weston McKennie (7/10):

Was certainly involved in the Juve midfield. Did well both on the ball and off of it and was one of few Juve players to put in a good shift.

    Tim Weah (6/10):

Had a few decent moments after coming in. Couldn't quite provide Juve the lift they needed, though, although no one else could, either.

  • WHAT COMES NEXT?

With no European soccer on the schedule, Juve remain focused on Serie A and this ongoing Scudetto race. Up next for McKennie and co. is a match against 17th-place Udinese back at the Allianz Stadium before a clash against Hellas Verona, who currently sit 18th.
