Gunners’ fine start to continue

Arteta’s men will be full of confidence as they play host to City, with the Gunners fresh on the back of beating Athletic Bilbao. The 2-0 win not only got them off to a winning start in the Champions League, but also gave them their fourth clean sheet in five games. Not only are they scoring goals, but they’re also proving difficult to beat once again.

City, however, are having a topsy-turvy campaign. They just beat Napoli 2-0 in the UCL, building on their Manchester United demolition, but lost to Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion previously. Pep Guardiola’s men have struggled for consistency for some time.

Another factor to consider is that Arsenal not only have home advantage, but also had a couple of extra days to prepare. It’s no surprise to see them as favourites for this clash.

Huge attacking threat on both sides

It’s hard not to predict goals when you look at the attacking threats that both teams possess. Viktor Gyokeres and Erling Haaland alone scored 88 goals between them last season, and already have a combined nine in 2025/26. It’d be no shock to see either - or both - of them on target here.

Liverpool are the only side to have found a way past the Gunners backline this season so far, but City have serious firepower. Phil Foden seems to be finding his feet again, and they’ve scored in all but one of their last 12 matches, including friendlies. They’ve certainly got the quality to breach the Gunners’ sturdy defensive line.

While Guardiola’s side have two consecutive clean sheets, they remain vulnerable. Spurs and Brighton have already exposed them, as did Al Hilal in the Club World Cup, and Arteta knows their weaknesses all too well. It should be a fascinating encounter.

An interesting market to consider

An interesting option for this game could be the throw-in market. Both sides are known for their intensity without the ball, and their aggressive pressing styles, which could force each other into hurried clearances. It might not be particularly free-flowing.

Arteta’s side rely heavily on wide play and regularly have players driving at defenders in positions where clearances over the sideline are common. City, meanwhile, have some tricky customers of their own, and it could be a case of ‘if in doubt, kick it out’.

There were 28 throw-ins the last time these two met back in February, so it’s a market worth looking at. We should have more of an even affair this time around, with the ball spending more time out of play. The number of throws has increased game by game between these two, and we may see the same happen again.
