The veteran striker has never represented an Irish club at professional level, but that could be set to change as he targets one last hurrah before hanging up his boots

Irish football icon Robbie Keane is in talks with League of Ireland side Shamrock Rovers, the Daily Mail reports.

Keane - now 36 years old - confirmed last week that his time with LA Galaxy would be coming to an end after bagging three MLS Cups during his six-year spell with the Los Angeles club.

The striker also confirmed that it is now 'time to focus everything on one last major challenge', signalling that his playing career may not yet be over.

Shamrock Rovers appear to be at the head of the queue to negotiate with the veteran, and the club's location in Keane's hometown of Tallaght gives added weight to the rumours.
