New Roma coach Eusebio Di Francesco admitted he was angered to read a "classless" comment from Mohamed Salah concerning Radja Nainggolan's future at the club.

Salah is just one of a host of Roma stars to have left the Eternal City so far in the summer transfer window, after agreeing a move to Liverpool.

Strootman wants no more Roma sales

Leandro Paredes and Antonio Rudiger have also been released, as the Serie A club battles to reduce its budget in order to avoid UEFA Financial Fair Play sanctions.

Nainggolan, however, remains at the club, and Di Francesco was bemused to see Salah affirm on Instagram that the "time was now" to make an exit.

"[Nainggolan] is a great player and we want to keep him. He has important qualities and he will be in America with us," the coach said to Sky Sport.

"He has incredible qualities as he knows how to attack and defend at the same time. He has all he needs to be a top class midfielder.

"Salah's comment? It was a little classless, as he made his choice to leave to play in England and he will be respected."

Di Francesco also commented on club legend Francesco Totti, who left the club at the end of the 2016-17 campaign after a glittering playing career.

The 40-year-old idol is reportedly weighing up a playing offer from Japan as well as the chance to rejoin Roma in a backroom role.

"When he returns, it will be an added bonus because he is so familiar with the environment at Roma," the coach explained.
