Inter's Marco Materazzi explains how he made peace with Zinedine Zidane

Inter defender Marco Materazzi has revealed the moment he reconciled his relationship with former France ace Zinedine Zidane following their infamous clash in the 2006 World Cup final.

Many will remember the flashpoint during extra-time of the Berlin showpiece when Zidane floored the then Italy centre-back with a headbutt to the chest. Zidane was sent off and Italy went on to win the trophy on penalties.

However, Materazzi now claims he has made peace with the former France international playmaker.

Speaking to the French publication So Foot, Materazzi explained how the two men made amends.

"We shook hands and I said I was 'sorry for what happened, now it's finished'," Materazzi said.

"From man to man, there was nothing better."

Materazzi said how Zidane was cool about the whole situation. "He [Zidane] said 'no no, don't worry, no problem."

The clash between the pair was sparked by comments made between the pair after The defender grabbed Zidane's shirt during a nerve-racking additional half-hour after the regulation time had ended with the scores locked at 1-1.
