Basketball icon Jordan, who knows all about the pressure of delivering under the weight of expectation, was among those in attendance for a crunch European clash at Stade Louis II. He got to see what all of the fuss is about when it comes to teenage wonderkid Yamal.

The 17-year-old did not disappoint, as he registered his first goal in Champions League competition. A well-struck strike was drilled into the bottom corner from the edge of the box, with Barca responding positively to seeing Eric Garcia sent off and falling behind to Maghnes Akliouche’s opener inside 16 minutes.

Yamal continues to earn comparisons with eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi, as a fellow product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy system. Jordan has also been likened to the Argentine icon, due to the impact that they have made on their respective sports.

Jordan will have been impressed by what he saw from Yamal, but Barca were unable to pick up a positive result as a collective. Eventually, the energy required to compete with 10 men began to take its toll and Monaco snatched a winner in the 71st minute through George Ilenikhena.
