USMNT star Antonee Robinson on CONCACAF Nations League: We want to win it so much that everyone else gets bored!

The U.S. is set to face Jamaica on Thursday in the CONCACAF Nations League semifinal, with the winner of that match facing Mexico or Panama in the finale on Sunday. This is the third edition of the CONCACAF Nations League, and the U.S. has won each of the previous two.The first final saw the U.S. defeat Mexico in an instant classic, while the 2023 edition proved to be a lopsided 3-0 win over Canada. And, now, the U.S. is looking to make it three straight as Robinson says the team hopes to really cement their stranglehold on the competition.

WHAT HAPPENED?

"Every time we play for a trophy, it means something," Robinson began. "But I want to keep winning this trophy. I want only us to win it to the point that it gets boring to people that we keep winning it. We always focus on the bigger picture, we know the big, big picture is the next World Cup, but we obviously have a lot of steps in between. We've got this Nation League and then the Copa, which is probably the second biggest tournament after the World Cup that we can play in and is going to be a real test for us. We're all looking forward to it. Some big friendlies, more Nations League, a Gold Cup next year, so there's plenty of opportunities to practice in knockout competitions before the big one."

WHAT ROBINSON SAID

The Nations League will serve as a vital lead-up to this <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/usmnt-copa-america-2024-fixtures-cities/blt5997858461a5096e" target="_blank">summer's Copa America</a>, which is, as Robinson stated, the USMNT's biggest World Cup test. Gregg Berhalter's side has been drawn into a group alongside Uruguay, Panama and Bolivia for this summer's tournament.After falling to the <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/lists/USMNT-Netherlands-Winners-Losers-Ratings-last-16-lesson/blt3cbd09dafd8b3447" target="_blank">Netherlands in the round of 16 at the 2022 World Cup</a>, the U.S. is placing a bigger emphasis on learning to manage knockout round competitions, which the Nations League and Copa America will give them this year.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The U.S. will face Jamaica on Thursday before looking ahead to either the final or third-place game. After that, Robinson will return to Fulham for two consecutive matches against fellow Americans as the Cottagers face Auston Trusty's Sheffield United before taking on Gio Reyna, Matt Turner and Nottingham Forest.
