USMNT Olympic team defender Caleb Wiley secures high-profile transfer to Chelsea from Atlanta United - with immediate loan planned

Wiley has been linked with a European move for some time, and Chelsea have been the first team to pounce. They have agreed a deal for the 19-year-old - who has two USMNT senior caps - and will send him on loan to Ligue 1 for regular first-team football.

Wiley is one of a number of young talents to join Chelsea thus far this summer. Enzo Maresca has already overseen the acquisitions of Aston Villa's Omari Kellyman and Barcelona starlet Marc Guiu.

It concludes a fine summer of business for the MLS side, who have now sold Thiago Almada, Giorgos Giakoumakis and Wiley for a combined total of over $40m. They currently sit in 10th place - outside of the playoff picture - but level on points with ninth-placed FC Toronto, and a game in hand over the Canadian side.

Wiley's focus now turns to the Paris Olympics, where he figures to be a starter for Marko Mitrovic's side. After that, he will complete his loan move to Strasbourg - who finished 13th in Ligue 1 last year.
