WHAT HAPPENED?
Maupay drew first blood in a fiery encounter in North London that ultimately finished 3-2 in favour of Spurs after Ange Postceoglou's men scored three goals in eight minutes through Destiny Udogie, Brennan Johnson and Richarlison.
After handing the lead to Brentford, Maupay chose to mock Maddison by copying his darts celebration, with Ivan Toney also joining his strike partner. Maupay and Maddison immediately got involved in a war of words after the celebration and the England midfielder later revealed what he told the Frenchman during the match.
Getty ImagesWHAT MADDISON SAID
Maddison revealed to TNT Sports: "I just said to him he probably hasn't scored enough goals of his own in the last few years to have his own celebration so he had to copy mine. Short story, but it ended well for us anyway."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Maddison is a keen darts enthusiast and has incorporated the celebration into his goal-scoring rituals since his time at Leicester. TNT Sports pundit Peter Crouch, humorously remarked that he witnessed more dart throws in the football game than at Alexandra Palace during the World Darts Championships as Johnson and Richarlison also pulled out the move.
GettyWHAT NEXT?
Spurs' fans will want to see more of the dart celebration when they make a trip to Merseyside to take on Everton on Saturday. Meanwhile, Brentford face a stern test against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City next Monday at Gtech Community Stadium.
