  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Rangnick has claimed that Bayern should not have signed Kane in 2023, as the club will be unable to recoup any of the fee paid to Tottenham when securing his signature. Instead, he believes the club should have focused on younger players with a greater sell-on value.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Kane won the Bundesliga last season with Bayern, finally ending his trophy drought, and has already scored 83 goals in 93 games for the club. Nevertheless, Rangnick does not believe he is the player the Bundesliga club should have invested in.

  • WHAT RALF RANGNICK SAID

Rangnick told Sport: "Bayern should have signed Harry Kane at 20. You have to sign a Harry Kane at 18 or 20 and then keep him as long as possible. That would be my approach. But I repeat: every club has to decide for itself. You have to make an effort to discover this type of player earlier.

"He scored a lot of goals, won the league, and had a positive influence on the atmosphere in the dressing room. Yes, they won the German championship, which is logical for Bayern. But they didn't win the cup. They didn't win the Champions League. We'll have to wait and see what happens in the next two years. I'm not saying it wasn't a good signing, but my approach would be different."
