Son Heung-min set for LAFC move after emotional Tottenham exit as MLS club strike £13m deal for Spurs talisman

The forward didn’t return to London with the Spurs squad, as he awaits final paperwork and a medical with the MLS side. The report suggests that Spurs will receive a fee in excess of £13m for the 33-year-old, who emotionally bid farewell to team-mates and fans during a 1-1 friendly against Newcastle in Seoul.

Son departs Spurs as a club legend, having scored 173 goals in 454 appearances. His farewell in Seoul against Newcastle saw players from both teams give him a guard of honour, highlighting his impact and legacy in the Premier League. With former captain Harry Kane now at Bayern and Son set for MLS, a new era at Tottenham is officially underway.

The 33-year-old revealed his decision to leave during a press conference on Saturday, saying it was time for a new challenge. He was visibly emotional after being substituted in the 65th minute on Sunday, sitting in tears on the bench. LAFC are expected to unveil Son as their latest marquee signing in the coming days, pending formalities, and he will take up one of their three Designated Player (DP) spots.

The South Korea captain will now undergo his medical and finalise paperwork with LAFC. He is expected to enjoy a brief stay in South Korea before linking up with his new team in the United States. Tottenham, meanwhile, will continue their pre-season in Germany with a fixture against Bayern Munich.
