Boost for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as application for 5,500 seats on Wrexham's new Kop stand at the Racecourse Ground is finally approved

The Welsh side were granted planning permission by Wrexham Council for a new Kop stand but a condition was added that limited the capacity to 4,900. However, approval for the full 5,500 seated stand to be built has now been given the green light after a consultation with Welsh Water and Natural Resources Wales, Wrexham.com reports.

The leader of Wrexham council, Mark Pritchard, said: "I’d like to thank everyone involved. We all know that football is a huge part of our identity in Wrexham, and the success of the club is benefitting the city in all kinds of ways – catapulting us onto the world stage. It’s important the correct planning procedures have been followed, and I’m delighted that the Kop will now be able to be used to its full capacity when it’s built."

The development comes as a big boost to the League Two team, who have been looking to enhance the size of their stadium so that it is in line with their ambitions of rising up the English Football League. The Red Dragons have achieved worldwide fame since Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have taken ownership of the club, attracting huge numbers of fans both home and abroad.

It has not yet been announced when construction over the new stadium will begin. Wrexham hope to earn promotion to League One this season and currently sit third in the table - two points behind leaders Stockport County, who have played one more game than Phil Parkinson's team.
