    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After a full-blown Dutch revolution at Old Trafford, led by former Erik ten Hag, United fans remain keen to find out if Amorim will follow in his predecessor's footsteps and bring his own cavalry from Portugal. However, the manager brushed aside such suggestions and insisted that he would work with the existing players until the next summer and then look for reinforcements ahead of the next campaign.

  • WHAT AMORIM SAID

"I won't be signing [Sporting players] in January, that's what I said," Amorim told reporters. "I don't know about the summer. The main thing is to hold on until the summer [laughs]. After that, we'll see, Sporting's players are very good players. I don't know. We'll see."

Reflecting on his time with Sporting, Amorim added: "Regarding how things went here, there were titles that we could have won, I'm thinking about the Super Cup, we didn't win the Portuguese Cup, but it ended up going well and the impact we had, I would say we should have won more, but no one would have expected us to win so much."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Pedro Goncalves, an instrumental player in Amorim’s successful system at Sporting, has been pivotal in the team’s recent achievements. And the manager did not hide his admiration when asked about a possible transfer for Goncalves to United.

"He can play in any team in the world and with any player, because he is a great player," he said. "I could take him anywhere. He is very funny, which improves the personal relationship. But he is also very intelligent, but he also has to focus on Sporting because we have to be champions this year. But he could play in any team in the world."

    WHAT NEXT?

Preparing for his new position at United, Amorim acknowledged the challenges he might face, especially with language and media relations. When asked about his upcoming first press conference in England, the Portuguese coach cautiously said: "I’m ready, of course I’ll have to think a lot about the words. This conference I had there will be much more basic. But I’ll have to be very intelligent. Manchester United is always the club that people talk about the most there. But I’m not worried either. English won’t be my biggest problem."

Amorim will make his bow as the Red Devils coach against Ipswich away from home on November 24.
