In the press conference, the City boss told reporters when asked about taking over as England manager: "I am here. I'm really pleased and I cannot say anything. I don't know where it came from but I am really satisfied here and we will see what happens. I am desperate for when the players are ready to come back to start to train together and what we have to do."

WHAT PEP GUARDIOLA SAID

England have not been managed by a foreign coach since Fabio Capello's departure in 2012. Southgate was in charge of the national team for eight years, reaching the final of the European Championship in 2021 and 2024, while reaching the semi-finals and quarter-finals of their two World Cups under Southgate's stewardship.
