    WHAT HAPPENED?

Matt Turner, the U.S. men's national team goalkeeper, has had a tough start to the season, having been left out of the Nottingham Forest squad for each of the club's first two Premier League games. There's likely no chance at redemption, either, with Turner currently third on the club's depth chart.

Nottingham Forest, though, have reportedly turned down multiple loan offers for Turner. Teams in the English Championship and the Bundesliga have inquired, but Forest prefers to complete a permanent sale of the goalkeeper in an effort to recoup some of the $9 million fee the club paid for Turner last summer.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This summer, Turner remained the USMNT's No. 1 despite seeing his playing time at Forest dry up during the second half of last season. He started all three games for the U.S. at the Copa America, but the team had a disappointing, early exit.

Following Gregg Berhalter's departure as coach, and with Mauricio Pochettio's reported arrival, players have a clean slate, including Turner, who will now need to fight for his. No. 1 spot in goal.

    DID YOU KNOW?

The transfer window is already closed in MLS, which prevents Turner from making a potential move back home. The English window closes on Friday, while clubs in Germany will have until Sept. 2 to conduct business.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NOTTINGHAM FOREST?

Forest have had a bright start to the season, collecting four points thanks to a draw with Bournemouth and a win over Southampton. They'll face Newcastle on Wednesday in the second round of the EFL Cup before hosting Wolves this weekend for the club's third Premier League match.
