New Posh & Becks!? How Bayern Munich star Harry Kane is taking inspiration from David Beckham in new project with wife Kate Goodland

The current England captain looked up to a Three Lions skipper from the past when forming his own dreams of becoming an international superstar. Kane admits to using prominent celebrities for guidance back then – such as Manchester United legend Beckham and his partner Victoria – and that was before social media and an ever-growing legion of online influencers became part of everyday life.

The Bayern Munich striker has told BBC Sport, having set up the Harry Kane Foundation in an attempt to put his experience to good use when it comes to children’s mental health issues: “I used to look up to players like David Beckham. Now I'm in that situation - there are a lot of young boys and girls looking up to me. You listen to your role models. I would have done anything Beckham said when I was a kid.”

Kane is working with wife Kate, as they follow in the footsteps of Posh and Becks, and added on wanting to ensure that his four children are ready to deal with the many challenges that face youngsters all over the planet: “When I was younger, being released from one club and having setbacks like that, and then when I was an older teenager, 17, 18, going out on loan, living on my own for the first time, things not going so well at some of those loans, that's when I look back. I had to show a lot of strength, a lot of self-belief, a lot of resilience in those moments. I was lucky to have a good family around me, a good girlfriend at the time who's my wife now, so I was able to get things off my chest and that allowed me to focus on what I needed to do, work harder and ultimately turn into the player I am now. Everyone goes through different moments in their life, ups and downs, it's just when you have those downs you don't let things get carried away, you have to know or learn things to do to help you in those moments.”

Kane is now a source of inspiration to millions of fans, as the all-time leading goalscorer for Tottenham and England, and came through another test of his personal resolve in 2023 when leaving a comfort zone in north London and heading to Germany - with it some time before he was joined in Munich by his young family.
