NBA legend Jason Kidd part of consortium looking to buy stake in Premier League side Crystal Palace

Kidd is the current head coach of the Dallas Mavericks and a basketball Hall of Famer who also has two Olympic gold medals in his trophy collection. The 51-year-old now appears to have turned his attentions to the Premier League and is part of a consortium that has made an offer for Crystal Palace, according to The Athletic. The group have seen an initial offer for Eagle Football's 45% stake rejected by John Textor as it fell below his valuation. However, the consortium retains an interest and must now consider whether to return with an improved offer.

Kidd is the latest high-profile star linked with a move into English football. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have famously taken over at Wrexham, NFL legend Tom Brady is a minority owner at Birmingham City and JJ Watt has invested in Burnley. Crystal Palace could become the latest club to welcome celebrity investment with Kidd part of a consortium that also includes Morgan Stanley sports executive Bejan Esmaili, two Saudi businessmen Haider and Mansoor Syed and former Roc Nation attorney executive Wajid Mir.

Textor admitted back in May he was looking to sell his stake as Eagle Football "is simply not a perfect fit for Crystal Palace". He went on to add: “We’ve reached the point where we have a significant investment in a club we hold in the minority (in Palace). We’re having extreme success in Brazil and early on in France, (and) to not have that same level of integration with our partner in the UK… it just becomes more and more clear that that level of collaboration we want and need works."

Crystal Palace would likely welcome fresh investment as it may allow the club to complete redevelopment plans for Selhurst Park and potentially dip into the transfer market. The Eagles have made a poor start to the new Premier League season and currently sit just one place above the drop zone after 10 games.
