  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Bayern sporting director Freund refused to answer a question regarding an exit clause in Olise's contract during a press conference on Tuesday, stating that the club aims to keep hold of the player for a long time. Olise signed for the Bavarians last summer on a deal that runs until 2029.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In the past few weeks, a popular social media account claimed Olise has an exit clause which will become active in the summer of 2026 and suggested Premier League teams such as Liverpool, looking for Mohamed Salah's successor, Manchester City and Chelsea could pounce on the opportunity to sign the player. It was also claimed that director Max Eberl was turned down when he requested the board offer a new contract to eradicate the clause. Kicker has since reported that the claims were downright false and Freund was asked to clarify the situation at a press conference on Tuesday.

  • WHAT CHRISTOPH FREUND SAID

Freund told reporters: "As a matter of principle, we never talk about the contents of the contract. If I were to say something along those lines, then we would talk about it. Our goal is for Michael to stay at FC Bayern for a long time. He is an extraordinary talent, an extraordinary player, and he works very hard to keep getting better - at his very high level."

    WHAT NEXT?

After scoring 20 goals in 55 games in all competitions in his debut campaign, Olise continued where he left off as he scored a brace in Bayern's opening Bundesliga game of the 2025-26 season. He will next be seen in action on Wednesday, when Die Roten take on third-tier outfit Wehen Wiesbaden in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
