  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Wirtz recently dropped a major hint on his future as he claimed that he is willing to step out of his comfort zone, amid speculation over a possible move away from Bayer Leverkusen this summer. Bayern Munich were being considered favourites to sign the German international, but Sky Sports now claims that Manchester City have reached an agreement with the dethroned ex-Bundesliga champions.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The report adds that Leverkusen could consider cashing in on the situation and selling Wirtz for €100 million (£83m/$104m) to the Cityzens, but if Bayern come knocking on their door they are likely to increase their asking price to €150m (£126m/$166m) as Die Roten are a direct competitor. It has been claimed that staying in the Bundesliga and joining Bayern is Wirtz's preference.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

The advantage that the Bavarian club hold is the salary they are offering to the 22-year-old. City have a club policy of not paying a player an amount which is more than what manager Pep Guardiola earns per year at the moment. Bayern are supposedly banking on their massive wage offer to win the transfer race. This is also one of the major reasons why Real Madrid-bound Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso is no longer considering reuniting with the player at Santiago Bernabeu.

    WHAT NEXT FOR FLORIAN WIRTZ?

Wirtz's contract at Leverkusen runs until 2027 and although the player would rather move this summer, he could end up staying put for another season in order to leave for a cheaper fee in the summer of 2026.
