Luke Young breaks silence on Wrexham exit after being left off Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's retained list for 2024

Luke Young has posted a message to the Wrexham faithful after being released from the club following their promotion to League One.

WHAT HAPPENED?
Young had fallen down in the pecking order at the Welsh club following promotion to League Two last season and made just 12 starts in the league this term. As is often the case with clubs experiencing a meteoric rise up the leagues, painful and necessary exits are commonplace. Young was amongst a group of eight players not retained by the club - including the popular Ben Tozer.

WHAT YOUNG SAID
In an emotional letter to Wrexham, Young posted on X: "My time at Wrexham has come to an end but what unbelievable journey It's been.
"From when I joined in 2018 there was only one thing in the clubs mind and my mind, Promotion out of the national league, fast forward six years promotion to League One. To be part of this club and to have the opportunity to not only play for the club but captain the side (with a very good friend Ben [Tozer]) to back to back promotions will live with me forever. I've met great people along the way and made friends for life.
"Thank you to the fans for welcoming me with open arms. Players and staff past and present that I've come across along the way it's been an absolute pleasure.
"Wrexham will always have a place in my heart.
"I couldn't be prouder of the club and this team for their achievements.
"Lastly thank you to my wife and kids for sticking by my side through thick and thin. I couldn't have done this without you!!
"I'll be watching. Up the town!!"
DID YOU KNOW?
Young was Wrexham's longest serving player before his release. Having joined the club in 2018 from Torquay United, Young played 239 league games for the Red Dragons and was named captain ahead of the 2021–22 season.

Preparations for playing football in League One for the first time in almost two decades are well underway, and Wrexham's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be looking to replace the outgoing players.
