Lionel Messi's Inter Miami sign Liga MX, MLS veteran William Yarbrough as backup goalkeeper

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Inter Miami have announced the signing of goalkeeper William Yarbrough, bringing depth to the position. Last year's starter Drake Callender is currently sidelined due to injury, adding room for the former Liga MX and MLS veteran on the roster.

    “I'm proud and excited to join Inter Miami. I’ve followed the club's growth, and to now be part of that journey is something I truly value. I’m looking forward to bringing my experience, competing every day, and doing whatever it takes to help the team reach its goals this season,” said Yarbrough.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Yarbrough, 36, most recently played for the San Jose Earthquakes in 2024. Prior, he held various stints across the U.S. and Mexico, including time with Colorado Rapids, Club Leon and Pachuca in Liga MX. Among his accolades, he boasts two Liga MX titles.

    He joins theHerons as a free agent, having not played since last year when his contract ran out.

    The current Miami goalkeeper pool consists of starter Oscar Ustari, backup Rocco Rios Novo, and now, Yarbrough.

    Callender underwent surgery in early May to recover from a Sports Hernia.

    Yarbrough made his MLS debut in the MLS is Back tournament following a pause to the global game due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. He went on to make 107 appearances for Colorado thereafter.
