'He's a wonderful person' - Lionel Messi plays up importance of 'humble' Inter Miami president David Beckham as Argentine GOAT tells all on their 'relationship'

Messi was speaking about Beckham during his interview with Simplemente Futbol. The 36-year-old explained that while the two spend little time together professionally, they have a relationship outside of Inter Miami, and that Becks has impressed the GOAT with his humility and approachability.

Beckham was highly influential in securing Messi's services for the young MLS club. The former England captain conceived of the idea when he first invested in the MLS expansion franchise, over a decade ago. A group from Miami, led by Becks, met up with Jorge Messi (his father and agent) in September 2019, when the idea was first pitched to the Argentinian's camp.

Messi said: "The truth is, he's impressive. He's a spectacular person , and nothing else. Although he rarely appears when he's here, he comes here some days, but we've also had a relationship outside of the club, or we've shared time when he's in Miami. He's a very down-to-earth, humble, approachable person, and the truth is, he's a wonderful person."

Inter Miami have a busy few months ahead, as they look to qualify for the final of the Concacaf Champions Cup. In June, Messi will lead the side into the newly revamped Club World Cup.
