Lionel Messi delivers ‘what you wish you could do, but can’t’ as Inter Miami superstar is showered with more praise after another MLS masterclass

The Argentine superstar was at his match-altering best as Inter Miami crushed the Columbus Crew 5-1 in their latest outing at Chase Stadium. Messi was, as has been the case on a regular basis throughout his career, unplayable in that contest.

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner scored two well-taken goals, with more nonchalant finishes being delivered, while also registering a couple of assists - allowing him to post a notable first during his time in the United States.

Inter Miami continue to look for their enigmatic captain to deliver flashes of inspiration, with the 37-year-old all-time great still capable of winning games on his own. Few others in world football can claim to occupy such a prestigious talent pool.

Herons boss Mascherano admits as much, telling reporters of his iconic countryman: “Whether as a team-mate or now as a coach, I still enjoy everything he does on the field. Admiration is seeing in someone what you wish you could do, but can’t. Our job is to create the right environment so he can shine, enjoy, and lead this team.”

Messi will be hoping to produce more moments of magic as Inter Miami ready themselves for Club World Cup competition, with Mascherano’s side set to get that event up and running when facing Al Ahly on June 14.
