WHAT HAPPENED?
The Belgian midfielder, who has spent nearly a decade at the Etihad Stadium, has confirmed he will part ways with City at the end of the 2024-25 campaign, and according to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Reds are now vying for his signature. This audacious move could see De Bruyne line up against his former side next season - a scenario few would have imagined just months ago.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Liverpool’s pursuit of De Bruyne comes at a time when they are preparing to lose a key figure of their own in Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is likely to join Real Madrid. The departure of such a versatile outlet has left a sizeable gap in the team’s playmaking structure - one that the Reds might be hoping De Bruyne can fill. Although their styles differ, the Belgian’s vision, passing range, and leadership could offer Liverpool an immediate and world-class solution to the void.
DID YOU KNOW?
Liverpool are not alone in chasing the former Chelsea man. Serie A giants Napoli have also made a serious play for De Bruyne’s services, according to the report. One of Napoli’s strongest assets in this race is their ability to leverage De Bruyne’s relationship with his compatriot, Romelu Lukaku. The two Belgians have enjoyed a close bond at international level, and Napoli will hope this connection could be a key factor in convincing De Bruyne to choose Naples over Merseyside.
