Jurgen Klopp leaving door open for management return - but ex-Liverpool boss rules out coaching a Red Bull club after starting global head of soccer role

Klopp, who took on his current role in October as Head of Global Soccer for the organization after stepping down from Liverpool last summer, oversees Red Bull's soccer operations across clubs such as RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, New York Red Bulls, RB Bragantino, Leeds United and Paris FC (Subject to completion). His responsibilities include advising on global scouting, developing coaches, and contributing to the overall structure and success of Red Bull's soccer ventures.

During a media briefing on Tuesday, Klopp was asked if he would consider returning to coaching at one of Red Bull’s clubs should the opportunity arise. The German said: "I will not be the coach of a Red Bull team," he said.

"That is a clear commitment. But I can’t say I will never be a coach again in my life. I am probably the only person in this room who will be asked where are you in five years, I don't have a clue. But I will not be a replacement for one of the Red Bull coaches. I hope we can create a structure where these questions will not come up at all."

Klopp’s position with Red Bull allows him to focus on overarching strategies rather than immediate match preparations.

"It's pretty much what I wanted to do. I finished seven months ago at Liverpool. I did that consciously," he said.

"A few months after that the opportunity came up. I don't want to be a passenger or a prominent person in the room. I really want to put some value on it. I did not want to do that [be a manager] anymore. I wanted to get a new start and this is an opportunity. To add value. How it will look we will see. There is not one plan that works for all teams. We want to be the best we can be. In each department, in each club."

Klopp, who joined Liverpool in 2016, spent nine highly successful years at the club. His tenure was marked by significant achievements, including a Premier League title in 2020, a Champions League triumph in 2019, and victories in the FA Cup, League Cup, Club World Cup, Super Cup, and Community Shield. Now, the Red Bull project represents a new chapter in a storied career, one that allows him to shape the future of football in innovative ways without the rigours of day-to-day club management.
