Amorim's team sheet for the clash against the defending Premier League champions made for interesting reading on Sunday, with both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho left out entirely. The decision comes amid growing speculation about Rashford's future at Old Trafford. Manchester United are said to be open to selling the forward in January, and supporters have been celebrating the decision to drop Rashford for the crunch game on social media.

  • WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

Manchester United fan @utdHarryy posted on X: "If the Rashford news is true and he hasn’t got an injury, brilliant stuff from Amorim. Dropping Rashford from the entire squad becuase his performances have been tragic. As I’ve said many times, got full full faith in Amorim being successful here. The board just need to back Gil with his own players and to sell the players he wants regardless who they are."

And @markgoldbridge added: "Rashford up for sale rumours seem justified. Major statement by Amorim. Garnacho future uncertain as well as no confirmation of injury yet."

Supporter @JoshMUFC951 also tipped Rashford to move on: "Antony on the bench over Rashford he’ll be at Wycombe next year. Fantastic to see."

And @MUFC54 added: "Rashford being dropped is the result of day, if I never see him put a red shirt on again I will be over the moon, his attitude over the last couple of years has been bloody awful."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amorim has spoken about his decision to leave Rashford out and made it clear it was a technical decision and not due to any injury problems. "I pay attention to everything, the way you eat, the way you put your clothes to go to a game. Everything," he told Sky Sports ahead of kick-off. Rashford appears to have paid the price for a poor showing last time out against Viktoria Plzen, when he was substituted early in the second half. It's been a difficult season for Rashford once again, with the forward having managed just seven goals in 24 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils.

    WHAT NEXT FOR RASHFORD

Rashford's absence from the game is likely to fuel speculation that he could be on his way out of the club. The Red Devils are said to be willing to offload the forward for around £40 million ($51m) due to "concerns about his lifestyle." Saudi Arabia and Paris Saint-Germain have been mooted as potential destinations for Rashford if he does move on. In the meantime, Rashford will hope to return to the matchday squad on Thursday when Manchester United take on Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
