  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Henderson looked set to land the Eredivisie title with Ajax until a disastrous late season-collapse saw the Dutch side pipped to top spot on the final day of the season by PSV. Ajax did win their last game - with Henderson scoring - but it wasn't enough to deny PSV glory. To add insult to injury, a stony-faced Henderson was then forced to pose with his Player of the Match trophy and, perhaps unsurprisingly, couldn't muster a smile for the cameras.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

A dramatic final day saw PSV confirmed as champions by beating Sparta Rotterdam 3-1 after Ajax blew a nine-point lead in the space of just four games to finish the campaign second in the table. The ramifications are already being felt with manager Francesco Farioli having already quit after missing out on the trophy.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Ajax led the Eredivisie by nine points on April 19. Just four games later, they trailed PSV by a point. This is the biggest collapse any of Europe's biggest leagues has ever witnessed, per Opta.

    WHAT NEXT FOR AJAX

Former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is already being tipped to return and replace Farioli in what promises to be an intriguing summer for the club. Henderson is contracted to Ajax until 2026 but there has been speculation this season he could leave.
