'He needs help!' - Liverpool warned to sign a left-back in January as Jamie Carragher says Andy Robertson having a 'tough time' after costly red card against Fulham

Robertson was sent off after just 17 minutes against Fulham on Saturday as Premier League leaders Liverpool surprisingly dropped points against the Cottagers. Liverpool fans were quick to criticise Robertson, although manager Arne Slot defended the Scotland international after the draw at Anfield.

Robertson has been enduring a tough patch of form for Liverpool and former defender Carragher feels that the Reds need to splash the cash on a new left-back in January to help ease the burden on the Scot. The pundit also named one player in particular who he thinks would be ideal for Slot's side at left-back.

Carragher said on Sky Sports: "Robertson is having a tough time and it's a very unforgiving position. He doesn’t look like he's running back fully, he's had a whack then gingerly goes to control the ball before getting a red card. He needs help. Liverpool haven't got any back-up and it's something they need to address in January."

He went on to add: "[Milos] Kerkez has been a revelation at Bournemouth. The technical director who brought him to Bournemouth (Richard Hughes) is now the sporting director at Liverpool. Kerkez looks like a full back and he's aggressive. He's been superb since he came into the Premier League and is one to watch in the future whether he stays or moves on."

Robertson will serve a one-match ban for his red card and will miss Liverpool's Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Southampton. He will be available for Liverpool's next game against Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.
