  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Amorim said "the players spoke really loud" after the shock elimination from the Carabao Cup by League Two Grimsby, which was interpreted as him saying they were no longer following his instructions. The coach sought to clarify his comments two days later in a press conference the day before United's next game against Burnley.

  • WHAT AMORIM SAID

Amorim said: "Every time that we have or have in the future one defeat like that, I'm going to be like that. I'm going to say that sometimes I hate my players, sometimes I love my players, sometimes I want to defend my players. I think I cannot…this is my way of doing things and I'm going to be like that. And I felt that in that moment I was so frustrated and annoying."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amorim is aware that his comments have been heavily criticised but he vowed not to modify his words in the future. He explained: "I know that you have a lot of experienced people talking about the way I should perform with the media, to be more consistent, to be more calm. I'm not going to be like that. So I'm trying to accept that and I'm going to be who I am. That's why I have the passion that I have.

"If you have this kind of behaviour, you have to understand that you have things that is good on that type of behaviour, that you have the other side of the coin. So I understand that. And again, sometimes I want to quit, sometimes I want to be here for 20 years, sometimes I love to be with my players, sometimes I don't want to be with them. So, again, I need to improve on that."

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Amorim confirmed that the club will not be granting Kobbie Mainoo's wish to leave the club on loan. He said: "I want Kobbie to stay. He needs to fight for his place, and we need Kobbie. So that is not going to change. The rest I don't know how it's going to finish. I understand that the players that are not playing in this moment are disappointed. But everyone has the same... will have the same opportunity to play. You have to fight during the week."

    WHAT NEXT FOR AMORIM?

Amorim expects a big improvement from United against Burnley as his side desperately need to get their first win of the season to move up from their current position of 16th in the Premier League table. He said: "Sometimes it's not the result, it's the way we lost that game or draw that game. That is the thing that is hard to accept. Because we can do better. In this moment, we cover positions, fight for the ball, running, all these small things, sometimes we drop a little bit the level. The good thing is that we now have the next game to put that level up."
