    THE BIGGER PICTURE

When looking to find a suitable replacement for their No.9 berth, the German giants eventually settled on Kane in the summer of 2023. They have seen him find the target on 76 occasions through 82 outings, but are yet to help the ex-Tottenham talisman break his trophy duck.

  • WHAT MARIO BASLER SAID

That should happen in 2025, with another Bayern great – Mario Basler – urging Kane to remain at the Allianz Arena and collect more medals through to the end of his playing days. Basler told Spaceport Sweden: "Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski are similar in some ways. They are rarely injured and they always score goals, but I believe Kane is more of a team player – Lewandowski is sometimes a very selfish striker.

"I watch Kane play and notice that he also tracks back in midfield and distributes the ball quite well. I think he is more important for Bayern than Lewandowski was. He adds more to the team than Lewandowski ever did because he also works defensively and is more involved in the team’s build-up.

"I hope he doesn’t leave Bayern and I also believe that he knows exactly what he has at the club. Above all he is also of a certain age now, I’m not sure he’d be keen to make another change at this stage. I believe he feels very comfortable in Bayern, and I hope he stays there until he ends his career."

    DID YOU KNOW?

Another Bayern star that Basler wants to see stick around for the foreseeable future is Jamal Musiala. He added on the exciting 22-year-old playmaker: "I rate Jamal Musiala very highly. He is a great young player who brings everything to the table, not just for Bayern Munch but for the German national team as well. He’s been in increasingly good form recently – he’s an extraordinary player who is a pleasure to watch.

"I'm convinced he can develop into one of the true Bayern legends. He has what it takes to shape an entire era at Bayern Munich, and I think he feels very comfortable there at the moment."

  • WHAT NEXT?

Bayern have been able to tie Musiala down on a long-term contract through to 2030. Kane, meanwhile, is working on terms until 2027 and has offered no indication that he will breaking that agreement in order to seek out another new challenge.
