  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Lampard began his managerial career at Derby County in 2018 and since then has had varying levels of success, including getting sacked at Everton and barely winning a game in his second stint at Chelsea. Now, the ex-England star has opened up on how helpful Guardiola has been when it comes to offering advice for life in the dugout.

    WHAT LAMPARD SAID

He told Sky Sports: "The experienced managers can have a thousand stories. They've been there and done it, so they can offer that advice. I'm the same - if any manager wants to come and see what we do here at the training ground, I'm very open with that. I think the most confident and the best are generally like that. (Brentford boss) Thomas Frank, for instance. He invites me to the training ground and Pep Guardiola is the same. Pep is the best so you'd think he'd be consumed with everything he's got going on. But he'll sit down for an hour and chat about football. I really respect that. I hope that, if I can ever be like that, that's what I would aspire to."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Lampard is piecing back together his managerial reputation during an impressive five months or so in charge at Premier League hopefuls Coventry. Successfully transitioning from being a player to a manager is not a surefire thing but having all-time greats such as Guardiola just a phone call away is likely to be invaluable.
