Frank Lampard sends 'celebrity' warning to Coventry fans after rescuing draw with Cardiff in first game as manager since replacing club legend Mark Robins

Lampard was appointed as the permanent successor to Robins earlier this week, making a return to management after a year-and-a-half out of the game. His last job came as interim boss of Chelsea at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Coventry's decision to part ways with Robins was widely seen as controversial as he had led the club from League Two to the Championship across a seven-year stint. Nevertheless, fans of the Sky Blues have welcomed Lampard with open arms and he received an outstanding ovation prior to his first game on Saturday, a 2-2 draw at home to Cardiff City.

At his post-match press conference, Lampard said: "I'm very thankful for the fans. I understand the legacy of the last manager, I'm not here to fight that.

"I'm a low-key person. That's how I am. I'm here as a head coach. I'm not here as a celebrity. I actually shy away from those moments sometimes, even though people might not think that. I appreciate it, but it's not my moment.

"We want more than a draw but they were very supportive. That relationship is all about us now. It's about what momentum we can bring and what we can make this place for home games."

Lampard will be hoping to chalk up his first win as Coventry boss next Saturday when his side travel to Millwall. The Sky Blues sit in 16th place, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
