Getty THE BIGGER PICTURE
Genoa seek to strengthen their goalkeeping options following the sale of Josep Martinez to Inter Milan. The manager Alberto Gilardino is convinced that De Gea could provide stability as the last line of defence as they look to break into the top half of the standings after finishing 11th in 2023-24.
GettyWHAT NEXT FOR DE GEA?
The former United star has remained active during his time as a free agent, training at the facilities of non-league club Altrincham. This commitment to his craft has kept him in peak condition, ready for the right opportunity to return to the game. De Gea had reportedly received interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and the United States, but the talks fell through and now he appears to be intrigued by the possibility of playing in Serie A.
