Revealed: Date set for verdict on Paul Pogba blackmail trial as brother Mathias faces prison sentence for alleged role in plot to kidnap ex-Man Utd star

Pogba was abducted in Paris in March 2022 by two armed and unidentified assailants who ordered the French midfielder to pay €13 million (£11m/$14m). His boyhood pals, who were with the French football player during the incident have since been questioned about their involvement in the events. Pogba's brother Matthias, who was not present on the night but is accused of "actively assisting" the blackmailers.

As per RMC Sport, the Paris correctional court has now set the date of December 19 for the delivery of the verdict regarding Paul's kidnapping and blackmail case with six defendants set to receive sentences, all of whom were formerly friends of Paul.

Paul's older brother Mathias has claimed that he was manipulated into getting involved with the kidnapping and blackmail scheme and the prosecutors have only asked for a three-year sentence, two of which would be suspended, and a fine of €10,000. The 34-year-old could further face a reduction of the fixed sentence - by being placed on house arrest or being forced to wear an electronic bracelet.

Ex-Manchester United midfielder Pogba is enduring a rather tough period, having also been kept away from football because of a doping ban. However, after seeing his footballing ban reduced, he can return to action in March once he finds a new club after leaving Juventus.
