Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr hit by major blow in bid to land Ederson from Man City as Saudi side identify new target

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League champions have turned down an initial £25 million ($33m/€30 million) offer for the Brazilian shot-stopper from Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr as they value him at a considerably higher price of around £50 million ($65m/€60 million). This discrepancy in valuation has led to a stalemate in negotiations, despite the keeper already agreeing to try a fresh challenge in Saudi Arabia.

In light of the failed bid for Ederson, Al-Nassr are now reportedly shifting focus to Athletico Paranaense and Brazil goalkeeper Bento. Discussions with Bento are said to be underway as the Saudi club look for alternative options to bolster their squad. The shift in focus underscores the urgency with which Al-Nassr are approaching the goalkeeper situation as they need to replace an outgoing David Ospina.

According to The Sun, City are preparing to offer Ederson an impressive new deal, which includes a weekly salary of £900,000, a substantial signing bonus, and an overall pay increase of 75 per cent. While this package might not match the financial terms proposed by Al-Nassr, it would raise Ederson’s earnings to nearly £1m per month.

At 30, Ederson remains a pivotal figure for City. The club's efforts to secure him a new deal highlight his significance to Pep Guardiola’s squad. Despite the allure of Al-Nassr’s offer, the club remains determined to hold on to their first-choice goalkeeper, signalling his importance to the team’s future success.
