  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Manchester United legend was hoping to rebuild his reputation in coaching circles at Home Park, off the back of a disastrous 83-day stint at Birmingham, but lasted just 25 games in Devon and left with the Pilgrims rooted to the foot of the second tier table.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rooney has been freed to spend more time with his family, and is taking up a pastime that he was prevented from pursuing during his playing days. With no contracts to contend with at present, the ex-England captain is able to put his body on the line.

  • WHAT COLEEN ROONEY SAID

Coleen has told HELLO!: "He's just started skiing. We both went to the [Indoor Snowcentre] Chill Factore in Manchester, and had a lesson. I've been skiing for a few years now because of the kids, but he's never done it before. So now that’s something we're sharing together."

The 2024 I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here runner-up added: "We do active days out with the kids. We have days where we go to trails and we’re lucky to have a gym in the house, we have a boxing ring that gets used a lot as well. We try and do a lot together."

    DID YOU KNOW?

While spending time with their four children – including oldest son Kai, who is catching the eye in Manchester United’s academy system – is a priority for the Rooneys, they also enjoy spending time alone. Coleen went on to say: "We try to have a date night every week. It was hard with him being away in Plymouth. So now to have him back home is nice. We try and do something together – even if it's just a takeaway or a night away from the kids. I do think it's important to make time for each other."

  • WHAT NEXT?

United, who have been struggling for consistency again in 2024-25, have been urged to consider bringing Rooney onto their coaching staff as a striker coach. The 39-year-old is, however, enjoying a spell away from professional football for now.
