  • Chelsea block Mudryk and Fernandez
  • Could have played as overage stars
  • Blues won't allow them to travel
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Per theDaily Mail, Chelsea are not allowing either Fernandez or Mudryk to link up with the Argentina and Ukraine sides respectively for the Olympics. Both are set to be in action at international level this summer regardless, as the former plays in the Copa America and the latter in Euro 2024.

    THE EXPLANATION

Enzo Maresca and the club are keen to ensure that they have a fully fit squad to choose from when they enter the 2024-25 campaign and, as a result, will not let either Fernandez or Mudryk play in the Paris tournament. Were Fernandez to play, he would miss the entirety of pre-season, and the same goes for the winger.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

The report claims that other clubs will take a similar stance; Manchester United are not expected to allow Alejandro Garnacho to play for Argentina at the Olympics, while French president Emmanuel Macron had to petition Real Madrid to allow them to potentially release Kylian Mbappe for the festivities, but he was not included in Thierry Henry's squad.
